MANILA, Philippines – State-run National Power Corp. (Napocor) has augmented the power supply of Polillo Island, Quezon with 2.4-megawatt (MW) additional capacity to boost local tourism and businesses.

Napocor said in a statement it has inaugurated yesterday four new generating sets with a total rated capacity of 2.4 MW in its Polillo Island Diesel Power Plant in Quezon.

The deployment will accommodate the increasing demand and sustain the 24/7 power supply in the area.

“These gensets will ensure a more reliable power for more than 5,000 households in the three municipalities of the island – Polillo, Burdeos and Panukalan,” Napocor president and CEO Pio Benavidez said.

With the additional gensets, it is expected that local tourism and businesses in the island will continue to flourish as Polillo’s beaches are among the developing tourism sites in the country, the state-run firm said.

Moreover, on top of boosting the tourism and economic industries of the islands that Napocor serves through its 273 Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG), development programs in infrastructure, health and education are also ensured and improved.

Apart from Quezon, Napocor continues to reach more islands to energize and continuously upgrade its SPUG power plants for better power supply.

As of March 2017, 13 gensets have been commissioned with a total of 4.22 MW while 52 more units are set to be deployed and commissioned.
