MANILA – Airbnb is banking on younger consumers and the “hospitality” of Filipinos to further expand operations in the country, its Asia Pacific business operations chief said Tuesday.

“More and more people want to come to Southeast Asia and experience hospitality and Philippines has a big role in that,” said Robin Kwok, Airbnb’s head of business operations & strategy for APAC.

Kwok told ABS-CBN News that the digital accommodations platform has completed around 220 million accommodations worldwide since its launch in 2008.

She added that there are 32,000 accommodations listed on the platform in the country.

Kwok said millennials are seen propelling the growth of the platform with their preference for spending on “experiences” rather than things.

“Our generation is changing and evolving, like Gen Z or millennials, their needs and wants are different,” Kwok said.

She added that simultaneous to their expansion plans are efforts to strengthen security and privacy protocols for guests by using machine learning, secure payment systems and enhanced authentication process.
