Angkas suspends operations amid LTFRB crackdown
MANILA – Motorcycle ride-sharing service Angkas said Thursday it is suspending operations as it engages transport regulators in a dialogue.
In a statement, Angkas said it would stop accepting bookings and taking in bikers as it pursues talks with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and other transport authorities.
Last week, authorities shut down Angkas after finding out that it did not have a business permit. LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada herself led the apprehension of a ‘colorum’ Angkas driver.
Angkas said its app has been installed more than half a million times, and that it hopes to resume operations eventually.
The LTFRB has said it does not approve of ride-sharing services that use motorcycles, calling this mode of transportation unsafe.
