MANILA – Tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan said Tuesday he might bid for rights to expand the country’s regional airports, as he expressed support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s ambitious infrastructure overhaul.
Metro Pacific Investments Corp., chaired by Pangilinan, has partnered with the operator of France’s Charles de Gaulle airport, Aeroports de Paris and its subsidiary, ADP Ingenierie.
“I think it’s something we support. We know the country is in critical need of infrastructure. It’s something we are quite supportive of,” Pangilinan told ANC’s “Market Edge with Cathy Yang.”
The Public Private Partnership (PPP) center will invite fresh bids for airport projects in Iloilo, Bacolod-Silay, Davao, Panglao and Laguindingan.
The MPIC consortium had qualified to bid for the projects when they were offered in bundles last year.
“We would like to take a look at that again,” Pangilinan said.
Duterte plans to spend up to P8 trillion during his six-year term to build new roads, railways and airports.
